Amy MacDonald <<scroll down for Photos>>
I remember hearing Amy MacDonald guesting on Jonathon Ross's now defunct radio show a long time ago - she had just released "This Is The Life" and he was taking the mickey out of the cover picture where he said she looked a bit "frumpy". Amy handled herself pretty well and did a song or two.
Next encounter was on TV coverage of a festival a year or so later, then I heard the album "This Is The Life", which made me sit up. Great songs - "This Is The Life", "Poison Prince", "Youth of Today", "Barrowland Ballroom", "A Wish For Something More" and perhaps my favourite "Let's Start A Band"
A second album came in 2010, "A Curious Thing". Again some good songs - "Don't Tell Me That It's Over", "This Pretty Face" and "Spark".
I bagged a ticket for her iTunes Festival gig at the Roundhouse that year, and was mighty impressed. Amy MacDonald seems to be a pretty grounded individual and is a big Bruce Springsteen fan, and did a terrific cover of his "Dancing In The Dark"
A third album "Life In A Beautiful Light" was released in 2012.
In 2012, Amy was on the bill with Springsteen at Hard Rock Calling at Hyde Park. I tweeted her as I was a bit concerned that her set was scheduled to finish only 10 minutes before his was due to start. "Don't worry," she replied "Bruce NEVER starts on time".
As it happens, Springsteen did start late, but it meant he over-ran the curfew and was notoriously cut off while singing with Paul McCartney.
Any way, Amy MacDonald is a class act and good songwriter.
