Billy Bragg - Union Chapel, 24 November 2015
with support from Duke Special
A second night stripped back gig by Billy Bragg, performing with CJ Hillman, his pedal guitar player and member of his band.
Support was pretty good from Duke Special, a songwriter and keyboard player, His use of old cylinder and disk recordings played on appropriate wind-up equipment is interesting and his song subjects very entertaining.
As always, the whole affair was very enjoyable but I felt that Billy was not initially getting the response he wanted from the audience, but he was loving it for the last hour.
Oddly the traditional encore finale "A New England" was missing from the set list, I suspect because of the strict curfew rules at the lovely venue,
I had read that first row of the balcony provided a good vantage point, so tried it. Although the view was good, I did feel a little divorced from proceedings.
These photos were taken on my trusty Canon Powershot SX240HS.
