27/2/2014 0 Comments February has been a busy month...February has rumbled on and left me tired and suffering from the mother of all colds.
The weather started stormy but has been dry-ish here in Surrey for the past week or so. I still feel for the poor souls in the South West and cannot see how the farmers of the Somerset Levels will stay in business or how the coastal population centres can rebuild adequately. Mum's birthday lunch went well - James and Chris both came up and everyone seemed to enjoy it. We have been busy at the Gibson Cub Scout Pack and practicing in the meetings either side of Half Term for the Cooking Competition coming up this coming Saturday (March 1). This year one of the Dads is helping out with menu and method advice. We sadly lost a leader due to family commitments, but another has stepped up as ACSL. Pete (Akela) is on holiday in Australia, so those of us remaining are having to attend to the pack meetings, the Cooking Competition, Pancake Making next Monday and the Swimming Gala on 15 March in his absence. We are a team, so I mustn't complain too loudly - but I found out last week about the Pancakes, so I will have been banished to the kitchen for three meetings on the trot, which is just a little frustrating . The past week has been a great one with gigs from Emmy The Great on 19 Feb and Jake Bugg on 21 Feb. Unfortunately things have taken a downturn for me with a bad cold and throat. It arrived with some vengeance on Tuesday of this week and has plateaued leaving blocked up and with an evil sore throat. People have suggested I should take a few days out, but in truth there is too much on at work and I just don't want to lumber my supervisor - I have little faith in him getting much real help from other team members at work. So, I am busy and sick - essentially I need to stay standing until Saturday lunchtime - I can afford to drop then. Wish me luck...

I am still annoyed that the Arsenal put in such an inept and lack-lustre performance at Anfield yesterday. Five Bloody One - just shocking.
Still, the bad results make the good ones seem so much sweeter. They now need to perform against Manchester United on Wednesday, and then again at home in the FA Cup against Liverpool on Saturday. And then there are upcoming Champions League games against the mighty Bayern Munich. So, #COYG Sadly we have lost one of our Assistant Cub Scout Leader due to family commitments. Now starts the big search for a replacement. Cooking Competion practice week 1 on Monday, fingers crossed. Mum's 81st birthday on Wednesday. I should be going up to town for a celebratory lunch with Mum and the boys next weekend. I have been trying to research my grandfather's WW1 service and have drawn a blank. Unfortunately, we do not have any of the right details at the moment to drive accurate searches. Hope we can come up with something. Onward, my friends... |
