19/10/2016 0 Comments Driving tests, Health Concerns, Wizardry and the Golden Ticket - but not necessarily in that orderThat time again... and once again apologies for being tardy in the extreme with my update this time. I do have a good excuse, so please bear with me. 25 Sept 2106 - A trip to Harry Potter It seems a long time ago, but a few weeks ago a friend and I ventured up to the wilds of Watford and visited the Warner Studios Tour - The Making of Harry Potter. We spent an excellent time a fabulous day and you can find some more photos and a few details by <clicking here - The World of Harry Potter> Driving Tests - In August, I gave my friend a helping hand and a bit of time and support and she managed to get through her Driving Theory Test after her fourth attempt (she says that the pass was down to me, but I am not really so sure ! I spent a few hours chilling out and enjoying the company, while she went through questions in the Big Book and I just kept an eye on her answers. If she had a query, I answered as best I could. If her thinking went off course, I tried to steer her back on track). This got me thinking just how hard the test is these days. I have been a licensed road user since 1976 on bikes and in cars, and it really was easier back then. Now you have to pass the Theory and you can apply to take the Practical Test. The problem is that the Theory Test is word driven. When I drive, I react to situations almost instinctively - I don't really think too much or over analyse. The questions in the Theory Test set up an scenario, with several possible answers. I found it very hard to get to grips with because I needed to visualise the question's scenario and then the possible solutions and plump for an answer. For the record, I failed a sample test (achieving less than 42 correct answers out of 50 questions) when I tried one initially, but after a little study got into the swing of what the testers were after. If you are more practical than academic (a do-er not a reader), the test is quite frankly very tricky. After a few evenings help, my friend took her test and achieved the standard required, claiming to have heard a disembodied me shouting in her ear at one point "No, not that one - the answer is ..." A few more lessons and she bought a small car and I was nominated (volunteered really) to sit with her as she practiced her driving. As I suspected, this was not at all traumatic and after a few days Jenny took her driving test and passed first time. Happy days and in truth I was as pleased as Punch about the result. My Mum had a "bit of a do" a couple of weeks ago and fell after passing out in her London flat. Luckily, she "only" suffered a badly split lip and bruising. She was in University College Hospital for a week, but care packages are being reviewed and will hopefully set things back on the right track. Glastonbury 2017 - This year, the ticket sales free-for-all (as long as you have registered) was all over in 71 minutes. Allegedly 2 million people were after the 150,000 tickets. During the main sale, one of the See Tickets servers went down The Gods granting me good favour and having my Lucky Browser Refreshing Fairy at the controls did secure me a ticket for the Worthy Farm event in June 2017. I realise that camping, music, potential mud and long drop toilets are not for everybody., but for me the Glastonbury weekend is magical and can't be beat. I have lucky enough to have a 50% success rate since I first bit the bullet and got a ticket in 2011, and am truly thankful for that. It is a very special festival. I have written a few web pages and diaries over time and you can see read them by clicking here <Glastonbury Pages> Real life events have got in the way of a few things, including Cubs Scouts where our young pack finished 4th in the annual district Push Carts competition.
My beloved Gunners are in the middle of a good run of ten without loss, but time will tell if their sadly traditional fade comes along. But life is generally pretty good on Planet Eggybread, Dear Reader and thank you for showing an interest. Until next time --- Pip pip !
