Standen -Tulip time, 29 April 2018
After a review and rationalision of annual memberships, we signed up for the National Trust.
I have never been to Standen which is near East Grinstead, and saw that there is a Tulip Festival.
We braced slighty dull and damp weather, but the trip was worth it.
The Tulip Festival meant that the parking attendants were struggling, but we got there and spent an enjoyable few hours exploring the grounds and house.
Decor was by William Morris, who is heavily associated with the British Arts and Crafts movement. <Link to the William Morris Wiki page here>
The house was built in the 1890s for a family with 7 children. It has 23 bedrooms !
Helen Beale, one of the Daughters of the House was the first female officer in the WRNS and later was a player in creating the Girl Guide Association.
The grounds are beautiful and the 10,000 tulips are very impressive.
These photos are from my trusty Canon Powershot SX60HS compact.
