Bluebell Railway and Sheffield Park, 24 October 2018
Half Term holiday day 2 - A short trip to the Ashdown Forest to visit an old friend's grave and then farther down the same road to Sheffield Park, home of the Bluebell Railway.
Although the weather was not as warm as when we visited the Isle of Wight Railway earlier in the year, it was good to see the now extended restored line. There is something about a steam train - the noise, the smell, the smoke and the heat - that makes the journey an excitement somehow.
We went 3rd Class on the return trip up the whole line from Sheffield Park to East Grinstead (calling at Horsted Keynes and Kingscote). Fabulous, and even the coffee from the buffet was traditionally bad as you would have expected years ago !
After the railway, a very short drive brought us to Sheffield Park.
A nice picnic lunch and stroll around the lake whetted our appetite to come back this way when we get a chance
