"Alison", "Watching The Detectives", "Pump It Up", "Accident's Will Happen", "Oliver's Army", and "(I Don't Want To Go To) Chelsea" would be enough to cheer my heart.
Add to those these gems : "Shipbuilding", "Good Year For The Roses", "I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down", "New Amsterdam", "Green Shirt", "New Lace Sleeves", "High Fidelity", "Beyond Belief", "Everyday I Write The Book" and a myriad others and you can begin to see what a busy bee Declan Patrick MacManus has been, and from what I see continues to be.
The Costello Songbook is huge and of a remarkably consistent high standard.
In his time, Elvis Costello has collaborated with other greats - Burt Bacharach, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison to name a few.
I remember Elvis Costello coming onto the stage at LiveAid at Wembley in 1985, and announcing that he was going to sing a northern folk song. A sing-along rendition of "All You Need Is Love" followed.
I saw Elvis and his band at the Royal Albert Hall in 2012. It was a "Greatest Hits" show and members of the audience were asked to go up on stage to spin the wheel to decide what would come next.
Elvis Costello's work with Nick Lowe came up with a fabulous version of the Brinsley Swartz tune, "What's So Funny 'Bout Peace Love and Understanding?"
Which is a sentiment I fully approve of.
Number of times seen: 1 plus LiveAid
