Ian Anderson - Jethro Tull:The Rock Opera
10 Sept 2015, SBE
I saw the advert and was stupidly excited at the prospect of this show to hear some of my absolute favourite tunes repackaged to tell some of the story of Jethro Tull, the 18th century agricultural pioneer whose name was stolen over 45 years ago by one of my favourite bands.
The musicianship was great, as I would expect from any band put together by Ian Anderson. The show was pretty clever, comprising video links with guests and accompaniments.
Suggesting that the current food production / global warming crises mirrored to some extent the 18th century problems were interesting. Things got a little weird when we were whisked to the future to see what Jethro Tull's ancestors were doing.
The one legged flautist still gave us a real treat, with some obvious choices such as "Songs From The Wood" and "Heavy Horses", but there were also full blown rocking versions of "Aqualung", "Living In The Past" and "Locomotive Breath".
Somehow, I had bought a ticket "In the Gods", but these photos all came from of my trusty Canon Powershot SX240HS compact.
