Jake Bugg
I started hearing the hype surrounding Jake Bugg a couple of year's ago when his breakthrough single "Lightning Bolt" was released.
I saw him on the Jools Holland show and thought "Yup, he's good". In interviews, he was interesting.
Coming from Nottingham and having a fairly thick Notts accent, I found that just as with the great Neil Young, you have to get over the voice before loving Jake Bugg. Not a criticism, just a fact of Ratcliffe life.
I then heard "Broken". It stopped me in my tracks. Trying to avoid hyperbole, it is just IMMENSE.
Jake's self-titled debut album holds other good songs including "Two Fingers" and "A Song About Love" .
In 2013 came the more "electric" second album "Shangri-La". I bought it and liked it. It contains "Slumville Sunrise" and "What Doesn't Kill You".
2014 - As part of the Albert Sessions series at the Royal Albert Hall, Jake Bugg played a concert and held some music workshops with some Young People. It seemed too good an opportunity to miss.
I wasn't sure if Jake's live persona might not live up to my by now high expectation.
He did not fail to thrill and played a short acoustic set before his main band set.
It was very impressive, but he was joined on stage by soul singer
Michael Kiwanuka and later by the great Johnny Marr.
A fabulous night.
The Royal Albert Hall published this review including some more photos and a set list <<Click Here>>....
In March 2016, some more gigs were announce, so managed to see a very enjoyable <<show at the Brixton Electric>>
