Building a Lego London Bus, November 2018
James, Chris, Tara and Charlotte gave me a Lego London Bus for my birthday in April.
It is a depiction of the iconic Routemaster bus which I grew up with in the 1960s, 70s and 80s (and dearly love).

It is the biggest set I have attempted, at 1686 pieces. There is a mass of great details - seats, stairs, a used ticket box and even an umbrella stand and umbrella for the rear platform.
After 6 months of warm weather and getting my Lego Building skills up to Age 16 standard, I finally broached the box.
Construction is split over 4 sections and the parts presented in multiple bags numbered by section.
Lego instructions are simply a book of stage by stage pictures, which sounds simple and great - but on occasion just a short few words would be brilliant. My poor eyes struggle with some of the colours, but kind, younger eyes can normally sort things out for me.
One over zealous grab of a similar looking brick to the one you actually need can (and did) lead to some short reverse engineering to get the right parts into the right places.
I have been very surprised by the amount of work which has to be done on the set and which will not be in view - particularly in the first to sections to make the lower deck.
Here is an overview of the construction which was done over odd afternoons and shorter evening sessions, together with some over immersive pre-bedtime sessions which me to a couple of very late nights (on school nights as well-- naughty !).
The Upper Deck sessions were less tricky because I had a boiler failure at home so had a few hours over two days waiting patiently for the engineer.
These photos are from my iPhone 5S (colour variations are due to using flash and not - the bricks are London Transport Red ).
