Summer Camp
Summer Camp were playing in the Pepsi Introducing tent around the side of the main stage at (I think) Wireless at Hyde Park in July 2011. This was the Saturday after I had come back from Glastonbury, so I was pretty much "gigged-out" but I had got the ticket to see Pulp headline so had to go.
Any way, I saw the name and went into the tent and liked what I heard. Elizabeth Sankey's more than passing resemblance to a friend also fascinated me. The other half of the duo, Jeremy Warmsley seemed to be a bit of a techy music geek (sorry, Jeremy) and they played 20 minutes or so of good pop.
A bit of research led me to Pledge Music where they were crowd funding their debut album. This in turn led to the eventual production (not just from pledges by me, you understand) of "Welcome To Condale", a bit of email correspondence and my second sighting at Brighton's Green Door where a few words of encouragement were exchanged.
"Better Off Without You", "Down"
Summer Camp also happened to support The Vaccines at a gig I went to at the Brixton Academy that November.
And then I saw them at the Scala in Camden (but the photos aren't so good of that one).
This "real-life couple**" [**(c) Metro Newspaper] were the subject of a few small articles I came across, and after another 18 months or so, a new album "Summer Camp" appeared in late 2013. It became apparent during promo-blurb that the couple are now married.
"Fresh", "Two Chords", "Crazy"
I have quite a nice Twitter time with Elizabeth and Jeremy and apart from producing great pop tunes - terrific vocals and great musical hooks - they are just plain nice people.
Summer Camp played the last date of their UK tour promoting their "Summer Camp" album at Heaven, London. A great evening - it is so good to see them really enjoying their time in the spotlight.
In March 2014, Jeremy and Elizabeth also played a charity gig at the Islington Assembly Hall for Attitude Is Everything, topping the bill.
I love this band. Now that's a fact.
2015 saw the release of the band's third CD, "Bad Love". Good vibe, racey bass and great vocals from Elizabeth.
I managed to get to a fabulous gig at the London Village Underground in Shoreditch. <Gig Page Here>
