North Africa
Morocco
1977 - Dave Rice, Steve Floyd and myself went to stay at "Camp Africa" close to Asilah on the beach south (I think) of Tangiers. Accommodation was hut on the beach, with just a mattress.
Loved it, as it was our first trip abroad after starting work - in fact it was my first trip abroad.
Remember a bad "disco", strange "greasy spoon" type restaurant all designed to suit the taste of the young Brit abroad.
Only take Moroccan Rose wine with lemonade !
Tunisia
1979- Went first with Jo to a very nice hotel based resort. Enjoyed the sun and pool.
Did a few trips to local cultural centres such as Sidi-Bou-Said and rode camels. At this time, Tunisia was not commercialised in the tourist sense, and you could imagine that some elements had not changed for a few hundred years.
Remember going to Carthage and being quite under-whelmed. The ruins did not bring alive the stories we had read at school.
1997- How things had changed. Went this time with Jo and the boys, together with Michael.
Family hotel, swimming pools and slides which were fine but the rooms were not very good. Air conditioning did not work in one.
Jo and the boys hung around the pool. Only trip I recall was with James to see a very impressive ruin of a Roman coliseum.
