23/2/2018 0 Comments I love this song - Extra - "We Have All The Time In The World" by Louis ArmstrongI heard this tune this morning and as always happens when I hear it, stopped and listened. In my opinion, one of the best Bond songs, from the underated George Lazenby outing in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", with lyrics by Hal David and Music by John Barry. The great Louis Armstrong vocal, simple lyrics and fabulous arrangement make this very special. Sentimental, hopeful, optimistic and forward looking, but as used in the context of the film, incredibly sad. Spoiler Alert: Bond falls in love and marries Tracy Di Vicenzo (Diana Rigg) who is shot and killed in a Spectre attack on his car after leaving their wedding. The song title is taken from Bond's final words in the movie (and book), spoken while cradling his wife's body. Heart breaking. "We have all the love in the world If that's all we have You will find We need nothing more" "Every step of the way Will find us With the cares of the world Far behind us" "We have all the time in the world Just for love Nothing more Nothing less Only love" "We Have All The Time In The World"

This image has rattled my cage. 31 mass shooting incidents in the U.S.A. this year alone - and we are only 46 days into 2018. I am told 18 school children killed by guns at schools this year alone. I know that it is really nothing to do with me as I am resident in the U.K. but this tweet / Facebook post from musician and activist Moby pretty much sums up what myself and many, many others around the globe think. The fact that many people in the U.S.A. own many guns which do not get used to harm anything other than targets at ranges is not the issue, but this argument is precisely why changes to the gun laws in the States never happen. I don't get it, and hate seeing even the Police carrying firearms. It sets me on edge rather than making me feel safer. The Constitution Second Amendment states: “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” That was ratified in 1791, when times were very different, before even most of the West had been won. This came from a background of post-colonial occupation, Independence and the potential need to raise an army at short notice to defend their towns and loved ones from other invading forces. Nowadays the US Army is one of the (if not THE) largest and best equipped forces on the planet. Yes, people should be able to defend themselves and property, in remote locations where bears, wild cats and other dangerous creatures live, a rifle or gun is a sensible precaution. But in urban areas, with adequate Police presence, why would anyone NEED an automatic weapon? It makes NO SENSE. This article and graphic from the British newspaper The Guardian is chilling : <Mass Shootings in the US:there have been 1624 in 1870 days>
The statistics speak for themselves but I am aware that stats can prove that Black is White and that 127 is actually only 17. But the truth is that in the 10 years between 2007-2017 gun deaths accounted for 340,366 people. Put this in perspective by imagining how you would feel if every single person in Anaheim, California was shot every 10 years (Anaheim's population is approx 346,000). As I previously said, this is nothing to do with me as I live in the U.K., but as a human being it pains me every time. My heart sinks as I think of the victims and their families. When will the Leaders of the Free World learn that this cannot continue unabated ??? This is NOT an analysis of a song, merely personal observations about a song that I love. Enjoy. Ian "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol Brilliant sing along anthems were Snow Patrol's speciality. Then in 2006, along came their album "Eyes Open" and this beautiful love song. The words are understated and very touching. The music is understated and just lovely. The song is haunting. "I don't quite know How to say How I feel" "I need your grace To remind me To find my own" "All that I am All that I ever was Is here in your perfect eyes They're all I can see" "Chasing Cars"
by Jonny Quinn, Paul Wilson, Tom Simpson , Nathan Connolly and Gary Lightbody We'll do it all Everything On our own We don't need Anything Or anyone If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me And just forget the world? I don't quite know How to say How I feel Those three words Are said too much They're not enough If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me And just forget the world? Forget what we're told Before we get too old Show me a garden That's bursting into life Let's waste time Chasing cars Around our heads I need your grace To remind me To find my own If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me And just forget the world? Forget what we're told Before we get too old Show me a garden That's bursting into life All that I am All that I ever was Is here in your perfect eyes They're all I can see I don't know where Confused about how as well Just know that these things Will never change for us at all If I lay here If I just lay here Would you lie with me And just forget the world? |
